​This series is considered one of the most popular radio programs of all time that aired from January 7, 1941 to October 5, 1952.  It was immediately recognized by its creaking door open, chilling host, and equally scary episodes.  It also featured some of the top Hollywood stars of the era.  It was created by producer Himan Brown and was based on the imprint given to the mystery novels of Simon & Schuster. In all, 526 episodes were broadcast, but less than 200 exist.
